The 2023 Texas Scale Championship, hosted by Greater Southwest AeroModelers, on Saturday and Sunday Sept 9 -10 was an interesting event and some great weather for watching RC airplanes compete. Some of the planes definitely looked realistic when getting airborne and going around the pattern. Most were prop driven, but there were also a couple of jet/fan driven planes including a B-1 bomber with actual variable-sweep wings. Some of the workmanship on these models was impressive with my personal favorite being the bi-plane. Participants would fly specific maneuvers called out by the judges standing next to them for the flightline judges to score. Having never attended an event, this was a good introduction to the world of RC flying.
