The Fall flying season harkens crisp mornings, cool breezes, and the leaves changing colors. It is a enjoyable day day spent outdoors, and why the flying events are so memorable.
It seemed that the late September Fall Fly In at Pecan Plantation was still operating under the summer flying conditions. The morning was not bad, but things heated up pretty quickly.
I chatted with several other 168 members there. Aaron Garinger and his wife Gina were there. I also saw Jim Novak there as well. Brad Roberts and myself departed from Grand Prairie a few minutes apart, and had lunch together that was served by the Granbury Chapter volunteers.
I thought I saw Mel and Ann, but lost sight of them and never caught up with them.
Helping park airplanes was one of our former members Charlie Kearns. It has been a while, but I am glad I was able to chat with him for even a short time (he was busy parking more arriving airplanes).
The fly-in attracts various airplanes that crowd the large field to the east of the runway. One that caught my eye was the Glastar on floats that was built by former member Bill Bracken. Haven’t seen that airplane in years, didn’t know it was flying locally.
The car show gets more impressive every year. Next to each other were a mid-fifties Vintage T-Bird and Corvette. The number and the show quality of the cars, made the flight and the heat worth the effort.
I tip my hat to the Granbury Chapter and the Volunteers at Pecan Plantation. There are lots of people and planes coming and going all day and they manage the organization very well.
Looking forward to next year’s event. Maybe we can request a bit more Fall and a little less Summer.
