Once again the chapter picnic at Mel and Ann Asberry’s Short Stop (8TA5) airport was a great time for all. The weather was clear and calm but a little warm. Then again it is mid June in Texas. With chapter members, spouses, friends and family there were thirty six present at the picnic.
With the great weather there were a few guests who flew in. Chuck Wilson arrived in a Cessna 140, Jeff Hansen in an RV-4 and Mike Montefusco in his Calidus AutoGyro. Mike and Jeff arrived at Short Stop about the same time and Mel did some traffic control! All went well and it was great to see these beautiful aircraft.

After the mighty fine lunch of BBQ and numerous sides we were treated to some low passes on departures.
One little thing – Not to disparage anyones flying machine or flying skills but the RV-4 definitely went by considerably quicker than the AutoGyro. Just saying.

All of this great fun and enjoyment would not happen without the most gracious and generous efforts of Mel and Ann Asberry. They have offered their hospitality to EAA chapter 168 for almost every year since 2002. They deserve as much gratitude as can be expressed by the chapter.
In a very short time after this picture was taken the table in the background was filled with BBQ and enough sides, goodies and deserts to satisfy all.

Oh wait, where was Mel? In the hangar of course showing his Zenith CH 650B project.
Mel showed and explained all the details in his project. He also was most supportive in answering any questions he could about other folk’s aircraft. A real gentleman.
Once again all we can say is thanks for making such an enjoyable day for the chapter.
