Smiley Creek last week was threatened by a wildfire that was encroaching on the field from the south. Bruce and Mary Ann Fuller, caretakers of the Idaho backcountry airport, were evacuated from the area. Bruce mentioned that in previous weeks the airport traffic included many firefighters and firefighting aircraft. We will get our next update when Bruce and Mary Ann return to the field before their departure from their tenure as caretakers later this month.
